An Eventing Derby competition consists of 2 phases, a dressage test and
a jumping course.  What makes it special is that the jumping course
is itself a combination of Show Jumping and Cross Country courses.
It includes, in one course, both XC questions with issues of terrain,
such as banks, ditches, water, etc., and Show Jumping questions,
which require more balance, agility and control to navigate.

FIFTH ANNUAL
HAUNTED HOLLOW HUNTER PACE

Saturday, October 27, 2007
Printable Info, Class List & Entry Form

CLOSED TO NEW ENTRIES

OPENING DATE: September 27, 2007

A Hunter Pace is an opportunity to ride out with friends on a glorious
(rain or shine) Fall day, fast or slow, jumping or going around the jumps,
and to have a grand time doing it. It is disguised as a competition.
As a competition the winners are those in each division who come in at
the time closest to the optimum time. The optimum time is roughly
determined by the speed at which a fox hunter would safely
negotiate the terrain.
The optimum time is predetermined.

(A walk = 100-120 mpm; Trot = 220-240 mpm; Canter = 350-400 mpm)

DEFINITION OF DIVISIONS

All divisions are ridden in teams of two or more, except for the Black Cat Run. The competition is judged on time. The winners are those who complete their ride in the time closest to the optimum (NOT THE FASTEST) time. Each division's course will be clearly marked, and there will be spotters along the way.
 All jumps are optional.

Rolling Pumpkins

(Walk) Approximately 2 Kilometers: This is timed at a leisurely walk. The purpose is to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, stop to look around, and have time to chat with your teammates. This division is approximately a mile long, and has no water crossings.

Floating Ghosts
(Walk/Trot) Approximately 5 Kilometers: This is ridden at a brisk walk and trot. You still have time to look around, just don't be too leisurely. There will be small obstacles on course. You may jump them for fun or go around them. This division is approximately 5 Kilometers long. (May have a water crossing.)

Flying Witches
(Walk/Trot/Canter) Approximately 10 Kilometers: This is ridden at a walk, trot, and canter. (It is not a race.) Please still enjoy your surroundings, no matter how fast they flash by. There are bigger obstacles on course. You may jump them, or go around them. Division will be approx 10 Kilometers long, with 2 water crossings.

WHY NOT ADD A BLACK CAT RUN ?
(Ridden entirely in the Cross Country Field. Short, fast, and fun!)

A 1000 meter cross country course to be ridden at 350 mpm. Has 8 - 10 obstacles ranging from 18" to 3' 3"
All jumps are optional.
Judged only on optimum time (350 mpm)
(Optimum is NOT the fastest time!)

A great tune up for your next recognized event

MARY FOWLER (R)

Mary Fowler is a USEF "R" Dressage Judge, and a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist.  She regularly teaches dressage and eventing riders at the Advanced Level.  When asked to tell about herself, she chooses to focus on her horses.  She breeds and trains all her own horses.  Her stallion (whom she has had since he was 5 months old) was First Level Free Style Champion in the United States, and many the horses he has sired and she has raised and trained have achieved highest honors in national dressage competitions.

Mary told us that she is especially looking forward to the opportunity to combine working with students in the clinic on Saturday with the feedback she can give, movement by movement, as a judge, on Sunday.
